Music Assessment Plan 2019-2020
Throughout the year I will be assessing the students in a variety of ways. These will include rubrics, checklists, quizzes, teacher observations, and student participation in various activities such as singing, playing instruments, listening, moving, reading and writing, and creating.
I believe communication of student learning is key. Therefore during the course of the year, if there are any concerns regarding your child’s progress, I will contact you through the following forms: notes in the agenda, email, phone calls home, and in person. Please feel free to communicate any concerns with us that you may have about your child.
Grade 1-2: The main focus in music will be on singing, moving, and listening skills. Students will be learning about the different types of voices, how to use their voices properly, and singing and listening to a variety of seasonal songs.
Grade 3: The main focus in music will be on singing a variety of seasonal songs, moving skills, and learning some basic theory skills such as; note reading and rhythm making.
Grade 4-6: The main focus in music will be on playing instruments such as the boomwackers, and orff instruments and learning a variety of theory skills that will help assist in playing the instruments.
All students will also be involved in singing songs for our Christmas Concert.
Choir and Handchimes: Our main focus will be on preparing songs and pieces for events like Remembrance Day, Christmas Concert, Volunteer Tea, and the grade 6 Farewell. Choir will be offered to students in grade 3-6. Handchimes will be offered to students in grade 5 & 6 who make it through their audition.
Grade 1-2: The main focus this term will be on reading and writing rhythm pattern and playing a variety of non-pitched instruments.
Grade 3: The main focus this term will be on listening and playing instruments. Students listening skills will be focused around the symphony instruments and playing on the orff instruments.
Grade 4-6: The main focus this term will be on listening skills and playing the instruments. We will be studying a composer and playing the recorders.
Grade 1-2: The main focus this term will be on playing instruments and moving. Students will accompany songs, stories, and poems with appropriate instruments, as well, be moving to the beat to a variety of songs.
Grade 3: The main focus this term will be on playing instruments and learning theory skills such as; note reading and rhythm making. Students will accompany songs, stories, and poems with appropriate instruments.
Grade 4-6: The main focus this term will be on singing a variety of songs and moving. Students will sing in canons and move to a variety of folk and popular music. The grade 6 students will focus on a song for their Farewell.
Report cards will be published at the following dates and times:
• Term 1 report cards will be published on November 26, 2019 @ 4:00 PM. Parent teacher interviews will be November 27 & November 28, 2019.
• Term 2 report cards will be published on March 20, 2020 @4:00 PM. Parent teacher interviews will be March 24 and March 215, 2020.
• Term 3 report cards will be published on June 26, 2020 @ 4:00 PM.
